A classic, yet "off-the-beaten-path" date idea, a hockey game. Lucky for you, the Utah Grizzlies is exactly that. Tickets won't be too much, as they aren't an NHL team. But the crowd is just engaged enough, as they are an ECHL team. Plan on two hours at this game. The easiest way to grab tickets is online from the Utah Grizzlies website. Inside you'll find basic sports food and drinks. Outside you'll find some chain restaurants to grab some dinner before the game or drinks after the game. These restaurants will sometimes get a little busy, so just make sure to plan ahead. If you are just grabbing drinks after the game, you shouldn't have any problem.
The Utah Grizzlies are located at the Maverik Center in the heart of West Valley City. (Just a short 15-minute drive from downtown Salt Lake City) When we went, parking was free, but I have seen them charge $10, cash only, to park. So be prepared for that. This parking is one of the worst I've seen. If it's a busy night, plan for a few extra minutes to leave as it takes a while for all the cars to funnel out. We usually will park at the Westerner (our favorite bar) and then walk to the Maverik Center. I don't really recommend this, it's a mile walk and not the best neighborhood to just be walking around in. But if you're ready for the adventure, then you can try it too! But make sure to not park in the parking lots surrounding the Maverik Center, I know of a lot of people who have gotten towed.
The game will consist of three 20 minute periods, with two 18 minute breaks. The crowd is usually very engaged and it's fun to feel the energy with them. We will always grab a few beers and they aren't really that cheap. So plan to spend a pretty penny or two while here. Also, it's very important to mention, they don't allow bags or purses inside of the Maverik Center, so make sure to leave your bag in the car.
After each game, they do a puck toss. It's a fun way for kids (and adults) to donate to charity. If you want to join, make sure to bring some cash to buy some pucks. After the game, you'll throw your puck on the ice. Whoever's puck makes it closest to the center of the ice, will win a prize. This is a fun and easy way to keep kids (and dates) engaged and want to stay until the end of the game.
And that's it! This is my easy and fun date night idea. You can even take the entire family if you're fancy like that. Thanks for reading! Make sure to check out my other posts for more date night ideas.
