Oktoberfest - Snowbird Resort

As someone who enjoys the occasional beer and is okay with a higher price tag if worthy, Oktoberfest is an amazing event to attend. Not a family-friendly event as people can start to get a little rowdy after a few beers.

Each year at Snowbird Resort, they do Oktoberfest. It usually runs for a few weeks and is only a 30-minute drive from downtown Salt Lake City. (If there isn't any canyon traffic) Just the drive alone is a beautiful sight this time of year. Last year I took some friends from Massichutes and they couldn't get over how beautiful the drive was. On some days, you can peep a small waterfall on the south side of the canyon about halfway to Snowbird. Something to note, dogs are not allowed anywhere in this canyon, not even in cars. This water is the main source of water from much of the Salt Lake valley. You will also notice a lot of rock climbers along the drive. This canyon is a very common spot for rock climbers and hikers. Parking is $10 at the resort. This year we decided to just park on the side of the road because the line to get in was very busy. But it made the long walk back to the car very pretty!

Snowbird Resort itself is a ski and snowboarding resort that hybrids as an outdoor play area during the summer months. Some of the fun things they offer in the summer include a mountain coaster, a mountain slide, and a gondola that takes you to the mountain peak. You can get amazing views of the rocky mountains at the peak as well as a bite to eat!

These as well as other activities are open and available during the Oktoberfest event. Just be prepared to spend over $100 and wait in very long lines. For us this year we decided to just indulge in the Oktoberfest events. But in past years my friends and I have tried it all. I recommend the mountain coaster it is my favorite.

Oktoberfest, like many other Oktoberfests, is a place for people with a common interest (beer) come to gather. Here you will find popup shops, music, and food. The beer consists of multiple local beers on draft. To get these, you must first buy one of the decorated glass steins. One can then reuse these for more rounds of beer. You can even bring old steins from previous years as well.

My husband and I have one big one from last year, and we got a medium-sized one for myself this year. The biggest mug was originally $25 to purchase, and then each beer after that was about $12. So it's like $12 for the glass and $12 for the beer. Just keep that in mind because it's very easy to spend a lot here.

They have little shops you can shop at. Most of these popup shops have nothing to do with Oktoberfest or Snowbird, but I still enjoy browsing what they are selling. They also have little snacks you can get. I got the pretzel with beer cheese as well as the cheese fries. Both were amazing to my drunk self.

Inside the tent, you will find live music and entertainment. They also sell more beer and bigger meals inside. These include brats and more. My favorite beer to get is the pumpkin one. They offer it with whipped cream and I always say yes to the whipped cream. It's amazing!!

My favorite part of the event is just wandering around the resort. Sitting in the grass and enjoying the great outdoors. It can get a little chilly at this altitude so if you usually get cold like me it might be nice to bring a jacket. It can get very very hot in the sun though, so don't dress too warm. My husband thought it was perfect weather.

That's all for now folks. Thanks!
